AKW scale

Are you allergic or "just" sensitive.......

What is an AKW scale and what should I use it for.....?

We have designed an AKW scale to help you if you are allergic or "just" sensitive.nWhether you are one or the other, few actually know, and in principle it doesn’t matter, because you still need to find out exactly what you can wear on your skin without it bothering you.

Our AKW scale is our own classification of our yarns by sensitivity and/or allergies. You could also just call it an itchiness scale. We believe that people with allergies or sensitivities can tolerate all yarn in category A. This includes, for example, 100% cashmere, cashmere/silk, some yak and camel yarn, etc. Category B also contains very soft yarn, but the reason it ends up in B rather than A is that it contains Merino wool and therefore lanolin, which many people with allergies cannot tolerate. Alpaca is also in category B because alpaca can irritate when you get warm, so it isn’t recommended for very sensitive people. Most people who are a little sensitive will be fine with the yarn in category B.

This guides you to find the yarn that suits you best - whether you have allergies, are sensitive, or just want something extremely lovely and soft luxury yarn.

We hope the new AKW scale can help you find the right yarn. On all labels and for every product in the webshop, it’s stated where on the scale that particular yarn belongs. It’s also possible in the webshop to search only for yarn that falls within a specific category.

A

This yarn is good for allergy sufferers or people with sensitive skin and good for summer knits or people who struggle with heat. It’s a good idea to use wooden needles because of the smooth fibers, and you will achieve optimal stitch definition after washing and blocking. It is recommended to hand wash at max 30 degrees. Knit your project about 3 cm shorter than planned, as it will relax with washing and use. It’s easiest to wind by hand because of the soft and smooth fibers
